The annual Archibald, Wynne and Sulman prizes

Arts

I was hanging out The Art Gallery of NSW the other day

Yep, hanging out.

right after catching Mr. Holmes.

The Archibald, Sulman and Wynne exhibits were on so the wife and I made our annual trek to soak in all the art.

Without further ado, here they are.

The Archibald

The Archibald Prize, first awarded in 1921, is Australia’s favourite art award, and one of its most prestigious. Awarded to the best portrait painting, it’s a who’s who of Australian culture – from politicians to celebrities, sporting heroes to artists.

The Sulman and Wynne

The Wynne Prize is awarded to the best landscape painting of Australian scenery, or figure sculpture, while the Sulman Prize is given to the best subject painting, genre painting or mural project in oil, acrylic, watercolour or mixed media.

The Young Archie

Budding artists between the ages of 5 and 18 were invited to submit a portrait for the Art Gallery of NSW’s Young Archie competition, as part of our family-focused activities for the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes 2015 exhibition.
The portrait was to be of a person who is special to you – someone who is known to you and plays a significant role in your life.

There was so much cuteness in this section which a lot of people missed (which is a shame). If you get a chance, the Little Archie is located right behind the exit of the main exhibits. You simply can’t miss it!

About this post

IMG_1874

I do have a part 2 to this post as I simply had too many snaps to fit into one post. I’ll be posting this shortly.

And of course if you are around Sydney, these exhibits are on until 27 Sept.

If you’re not based here, I hope this post inspires you to visit your local Art Gallery. It is a great day out and one worthwhile experience.
