Web Design Project #6: GABO

What:  Typography

Date:  19 April 2014

Learning Outcome Statement (LOS):

  • Polish up Typography skills
  • Improve design skills (essential of web design)
  • Aesthetics brush-up (whitespace, placement etc.)

Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Description:  I am technically cheating here as this is not a web page. BUT, I’ll back-up my work here and say that typography and general design principles applied here is a valuable skill for later web design.

Listened to this while creating this:  Bossa Nova (Joao Gilberto, Astrud Gilberto, Marcos Valle, Jorge Ben etc.) My mind is free of clutter and pretty clear in the early morning calm with soft Bossa Nova music in the background.

What did I do immediately before creating this: Saw the news of Gabriel García Márquez passing. I was surprised, but not shocked – the poor guy has been sick for a while.

Credits:  A lot of Behance and Dribbble designs (I am not on the latter – yet).

Gabo’s image from GoodReads (simply because he is such a great read!)

CommentAs I hinted above, this was all triggered by Gabo’ passing (putting out a typography design was not on the cards).

One Hundred Years.., Love in the Time, Melancholy Whores are in my top all time favourite books. Admittedly, I need to re-read these books as I flicked through the pages many moon ago.

Thank you for the stories GABO!

LOS check

  1. Typography skills: check (a LOT of this)
  2. Design skills: check (fair amount)
  3. Aesthetics: check (fair amount)

About this project:  Initial blog located here, last design here and here’s how implemented last month’s winning design. Basically this is a series of designs – 3x a month, beginning March and ending in May. If I have my maths right, that’s 9 designs between March and May with the 3 best designs to be coded here.

And I’ll be storing my collections here.

See you guys in May!
